BROTHER MACKEY L. BAYLESS was born on March 2, 1942 in St. James,
Missouri.  He departed this life on Sunday, July 25, 1999 in St. Louis, Missouri at the
age of 57 years.

Brother Bayless was initiated into our Order by St. Louis Lodge No. 5, I.O.O.F, on
August 14, 1976.  At that time neither he nor his lodge had any inkling of just how
important he was to become to his lodge or how important his lodge was to become to
him.  He received his First Degree on September 11, 1976, his Second Degree on
September 25, 1976 and his Third Degree on October 2, 1976.  He then embarked
upon a fraternal career in Odd Fellowship which serves as an example to all Odd
Fellows everywhere.  He was Noble Grand of his Lodge in 1980.  After his term as
Noble Grand he teamed with brother Thomas Dempsey to rescue the Odd Fellows
Cemetery on South Broadway, now known as South County Memorial Gardens from
dereliction and obscurity.  Through his and brother DempseyÆs efforts, the future of
the cemetery  looks secure.  He was elected Treasurer of Lodge No. 5 in 1985.  He
was a District Deputy Grand Master in 1988.  That same year he was elected Trustee
of his Lodge.  Those offices he still held at the time of his death.  In 1991 the lodge
voted to sponsor Safety Coffee Breaks for motorists which brother Bayless chaired
every year until this year   He was member of the Special Relief and General Relief
Committees.  He was currently serving as President of the Odd Fellows Association
and as Secretary of the Odd Fellows Hall Company.  He was a former secretary for
Martha Washington Rebekah Lodge No. 45 and was a member of Wildey Encampment
No. 1.   In 19998/99 he was Chairman for the Missouri United Nations Pilgrimage for
Youth.  A program which he was involved with for many years.  In addition to all of
this he still found time to take part in degree work, committee work, to serve as
District Deputy Grand Marshal at many of our installations and as Funeral Marshal for
our departed brothers.  In recognition of his service to Odd Fellowship, last month the
Grand Lodge of Missouri presented him with the Meritorious Service Award.  Only
eight have been awarded in the last century.  Although he had many titles, brother
Mack would like to be best remembered as one who believed in the principles of
friendship, love and truth.  He not only believed in them, he set an example for all of
us to follow as one who was always ready to help and assist where he could without
complaint.  A brother of his caliber very seldom comes along to grace our ranks with
his dedication, wisdom and maturity.  Although we may never see him again in this
life, I can speak for all of his lodge brothers and say that we are proud to have known
him.  He will be sorely missed from our ranks for many years to come.

Brother Mack is survived by his wife, Marilyn A.Bayless (nee Hay), his children, Kurt
Bayless, and Kimberly Bayless.  He was the grandfather of Lindsey, Connor and Tyler
Bayless.  He was the brother of Jerry Bayless.  He was a brother-in-law, uncle, great-
uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to many.

Funeral was from Fey Funeral Home, 4100 Lemay Ferry Road.  Odd Fellows services
